Presidents Message

Dear SGNO members:

As your President, I am happy to share that much has transpired since late June 2021. One major event that occurred was in August, when I married the love of my life and best friend on a lake in the north woods of Maine. Many of us are integrating parts of our pre-pandemic lives with our present selves and lives.  One can never truly go back. It is my hope that all still have that deep passion to remain and serve as oncology nurses.

Through a series of fortunate events and connections, I was able to learn about the Next Wave Group (NWG).  Next Wave Group, LLC is a full-service organization management firm. The SGNO Board of Directors recognized some years ago that our organization needed administrative support in order to thrive and best serve the membership. The pandemic placed an exclamation point on that need. After many meetings and thoughtful deliberation, the SGNO Board of Directors unanimously voted to sign a business contract with the Next Wave Group.  The contract went into effect 1/1/2022.

The Next Wave Group values best fit the mission and vision of our organization.  They quickly felt our passion and love for SGNO.  The Board felt and feels that NWG is the one to help drive SGNO into a new and wonderful next chapter. Angela Ladner is the Executive Director of SGNO.  She is a breath of fresh air and offers a tremendous amount of expertise and enthusiasm.  She is a powerhouse and is passionate for all things oncology nursing. NWG lends invaluable administrative support to our organization.  This level of support allows GYN Oncology nurses to be nurses.  It creates space for us to be nurtured and nourished in our practice. SGNO is a nurse-driven organization and NWG provides the heavy lift and the expert administrative support.  It is the dawn of a new day, and I am feeling a sense of purpose.

SGNO is proud to announce an upcoming virtual symposium that is set to take place the evening of 4/21 and all day 4/22.  We have rallied many speakers that were to present in Nashville March 2020.  I am pleased Carolyn Phillips and I will be presenting our work that we did together before the pandemic.

Thank you to our loyal and dedicated membership for staying with us.  A huge thank you to the Board of Directors.  Many board members stayed on well beyond their terms.  We will be hosting elections in May.  Please consider running for an officer position.  This is one of the most supportive organizations I have ever connected with in my almost 30 years of nursing. SGNO is near and dear to my heart and the hearts of so many. See you in April!

Warmly,

Cyndi Marcotte RN, BSN, OCN
SGNO President
